For My Sock Kit Swap Pal
The Questionnaire:
What are your favorite colors?
I like highly saturated colors. Everything from bright hunter's orange to sky blue to rich wine. I am not really fond of pastels, pinks or purples. If there is a little bit in a variegated yarn though, it's OK.
Are you a new sock knitter? How long have you been knitting socks?
I have been able to knit socks for quite some time (several years). However, I have not made many pairs. I don't really mind making socks, but it seems like there are so many projects competing for my time I don't get around to them.
Do you prefer solid or multicolored yarn?
It depends of the project, for socks I guess mulicolored.
What fibers do you prefer in sock yarn?
I don't really have a big preference as long as it's not scratchy or made from %100 plastic milk jugs. :)
I don't mind if the yarn isn't machine washable.
Where do you usually knit socks?
Everyplace. I knit in public all the time, so it's not a big thing for me. I do like to knit smaller, easier projects at the gym on the exercise bike. I also go to a lot of knitting circles where I can't work on anything too taxing.
How do you usually carry/store small projects?
I have a huge tote that I carry my knitting in. I also just made the Mr. Sockfish that would hold two socks at once. What I think I need is a smaller tote that has smaller handles I can slip over the exercise bike. Like the little Lantern Moon totes.
What are your favorite sock knitting patterns?
I really like Jaywalkers that I'm working on now.
What are your favorite sock knitting techniques?
I can't say I'm very experienced at sock knitting to have certain heels and things I like the best.
What new techniques would you like to try?
I am taking a toe up class at my LYS in a couple weeks. I think toe-up will work out better for me. Less picking up stitches and no worries about running out of yarn at the toe.
Do you prefer circulars or dpns for sock knitting?
I like DPNs, and I'm making both socks at the same time on two sets of DPNs. Then I don't have to try to remember if I changed a stitch count on one and not the other.
What are some of your favorite yarns?
I have a little obsession with Koigu and Schaeffer Anne. I have been wanting to try Trekking though, and I like self-stripes too.
What yarn do you totally covet?
I really want to try some of that Socks that Rock everyone is talking about. I like yarn dyed by smaller makers like Black Bunny Fibers any other's too. If you dye I'd love your yarn too!
Any pattern you would love to make if money and time were no object?
Not really, if I really love it I'd make/buy it anyway.
Favorite kind of needles (brand, materials, straights or circs, etc)?I really like Crystal Palace 6" bamboo for socks. I need a second set of 0's, actually.
I usually don't use bamboo, but the metal ones hurt my hands at that size, and the plastic ones have dull tips. Bryspun, oh way can't you make needles smaller then 2!?!?
If you were a specific kind of yarn, which brand and kind of yarn would you be?
I think I may be recycled sari silk. A bit lumpy and messed up, but when spun together it's a nice package.
Do you have a favorite candy or mail-able snack?
If you are in the UK, Jaffa cakes! Otherwise packets of green or herbal tea is nice, or any other candy.
WhatÂs your favorite animal?
Ilikek all animals, including insects and reptiles.
Do you have pets? What are their species/names/ages?
Darwin!
He's 10 this year. Getting to be an old man now. I also have 2 fish tanks.
If you were a color what color would you be?
Green.
Describe your favorite shirt (yours or someone else's)..
My blog title bar is actually a shirt, but I can't say it's my favorite. I have a 'distressed' olive green, soft t-shirt that can't get washed often enough right now. It has a batik type print in yellows and rusts on it. I think it's from someplace fancy like 'the Olde Navy'.
What is your most inspiring image, flower, or object in nature?
The Outback, no doubt. I just got back from some really lovely places in California too, but nothing like thsearingng blue sky and orange ground in central Australia. Everyone should be forced to see a Ayer's Rock sunset before they die.
Tell me the best quote you've ever heard or read.
From a fortune cookie: 'Never trouble trouble until trouble troubles you'
